Frequently Asked Questions

We know starting therapy can feel overwhelming. Here are answers to the questions families and individuals ask most often.

Getting Started

If you or your child are experiencing persistent sadness, anxiety, behavioral changes, difficulty at school or work, relationship struggles, or have been through a difficult life event — therapy can help. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit. Many people find therapy valuable simply for having a safe, supportive space to process life's challenges.

The first session is a chance for Barbara to get to know you and understand what brings you to therapy. She'll ask about your background, current concerns, and goals. It's also your opportunity to ask questions and decide if the fit feels right. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Christian counselor, my professional biography reflects that my practice is faith-informed. During the initial consultation and our first session, we discuss my therapeutic approach and begin building a strong, collaborative relationship. Clients are encouraged to determine whether this approach aligns with their preferences and values. Our goal is to provide a safe, respectful, and supportive environment where every client feels heard, valued, and empowered to pursue healing and lasting personal growth.

The length of therapy varies depending on your goals and needs. Some clients find meaningful progress in 8–12 sessions; others benefit from longer-term support. Barbara works collaboratively with you to assess progress and adjust the plan as your needs evolve.

Yes. Barbara offers telehealth throughout Florida. Telehealth is a convenient, secure option that many clients prefer for its flexibility — especially for families with busy schedules.

For Families & Parents

Barbara works with children as young as 10 years old. Age-appropriate therapeutic approaches are used to help younger children express and process their emotions in a safe, engaging way.

Parental involvement is an important part of supporting a child's progress. Barbara regularly communicates with parents about themes and goals (without breaking the child's confidentiality) and may invite parents into sessions when appropriate. Family sessions can also be incorporated as needed.

This is very common. It can help to frame therapy as a private space that belongs to them — not a punishment. Barbara is experienced in building rapport with reluctant teens and creating an environment where they feel heard rather than judged. Sometimes just attending one session is enough to shift their perspective.

Insurance & Fees

Barbara accepts several insurance plans including Medicaid and Medicare. She sees clients through Grow Therapy, which works with many major insurance providers. Please reach out or request a consultation to confirm your specific plan is accepted.

Yes. Self-pay (out-of-pocket) options are available. Please contact Barbara directly to discuss rates and whether a sliding scale may be applicable to your situation.

We ask that you provide at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. This allows the time slot to be offered to another client who may need it. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a fee.

Referral Partners

You can submit a professional referral through our Make a Referral page. The form collects the key clinical and contact information Barbara needs to follow up promptly. You can also indicate your preferred level of collaboration going forward.

Barbara aims to contact referred families within 2–3 business days of receiving a referral. Urgent situations can be flagged in the referral form and will be prioritized accordingly.

With appropriate releases of information, Barbara is happy to collaborate with referring physicians, school counselors, and other providers. Coordination of care is an important part of her practice philosophy.
